Regina Dominican Welcomes Norah O’Donnell for Inspiring Conversation on Women Who Shaped America
On Wednesday, March 11, Regina Dominican High School was honored to welcome Norah O'Donnell, chief anchor of CBS Evening News, to campus for a special evening celebrating the stories of extraordinary women who helped shape the United States. The event, held in partnership with The Book Stall, featured a conversation about O’Donnell’s new book, We the Women.
Several hundred guests—including students, families, alumnae, faculty, and community members—gathered for the program, which highlighted the importance of preserving and sharing the stories of women whose leadership and courage have helped define our nation’s history. Through research and storytelling in We the Women, O’Donnell brings attention to remarkable women whose contributions have often been overlooked, reminding readers that history is richer and more complete when these voices are included.
Adding to the significance of the evening, the conversation was moderated by Regina Dominican alumna Marie Saavedra ’02, news anchor at CBS Chicago. Saavedra’s thoughtful questions and her connection to the Regina Dominican community created a meaningful dialogue that resonated with students and guests alike.
Throughout the discussion, O’Donnell encouraged young women to continue using their voices, break barriers, and lead with both passion and courage—an inspiring message for the Regina Dominican students in attendance.
Events like this reflect Regina Dominican’s commitment to empowering young women to become confident leaders, thoughtful citizens, and engaged members of their communities. Hosting influential voices such as O’Donnell provides students with the opportunity to hear firsthand about the power of storytelling, leadership, and perseverance.
Guests left the evening inspired by the stories shared and the reminder that the voices of women—past and present—continue to shape the future.
