Regina Dominican Basketball Program Earns McDonell Award for Third Straight Year

Regina Dominican High School recently announced that the basketball program has been named the latest recipient of the McDonell Award, recognizing the athletic team with the highest collective grade point average during a sports season. This marks the third consecutive year the basketball program has earned the honor.

The McDonell Award is determined by the team’s second-quarter grade point average, and this year the basketball program achieved an impressive 3.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom.

“Congratulations to the basketball program on winning the McDonell Award,” said Brian Mancuso, Athletic Director.

“Winning the McDonell Award for a third straight year is no small feat.” In recognition of their achievement, the team’s name will be etched on a permanent plate outside the Regina gymnasium, commemorating their academic success.

The McDonell Award is named in honor of Patricia “Pat” McDonell, a beloved Regina Dominican administrator who retired in June 2019. McDonell believed that academic and athletic excellence should go hand in hand. A mentor, leader, and friend to many in the Regina community, the award celebrates her lasting legacy and is presented each fall, winter, and spring sports season to the team with the highest academic achievement.
