Fine Arts

Fine Arts at Regina DOminican

At Regina Dominican, the Fine Arts program nurtures each student’s creativity while building a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Students are encouraged to explore elective courses in visual art, music, theater, and dance—developing their skills and creating a well-rounded, diverse portfolio.

To fulfill the Fine Arts graduation requirement, students complete either two semester-long courses or one year-long course in the arts.

Beyond the classroom, our vibrant arts community offers countless ways to get involved. From musicals and plays to concerts, performances, and arts-focused clubs, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents, collaborate with peers, and experience the joy of artistic expression.

Dance

Dance classes are open to all students and may be taken for either Physical Education or Fine Arts credit. Students can choose from a variety of courses—including Dance Foundations, Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Dance Composition, Advanced Dance, and Dance Teaching Assistant. (Dance Foundations is a prerequisite for all other dance courses.)

Through these courses, students explore a wide range of dance genres such as ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, hip-hop, partnering, improvisation, and composition. In addition to building technical and choreographic skills, they also study the history and cultural evolution of each dance style.

Beyond the classroom, students can further develop their talents through Regina Dominican’s extracurricular dance opportunities, gaining performance experience and deepening their love of the art form.

Drama

Students develop performance skills and theatrical knowledge through class instruction activities and extra-curricular school plays. Coursework includes the study of voice and articulation, stage movement, improvisation, character and scene development, stage terms and theater history. Advanced students participate in direction of school productions and class scenes.

Music

Students expand vocal and instrumental talents through class work and concert performances. Performances include winter and spring concerts and the annual Benefit production. First-year students enroll in the Chamber Singers chorus to study voice and basic music theory, and in Orchestra to develop instrumental talents. Advanced students may qualify for admission into the Regina Chorale.

Visual Arts

Students gain proficiency in the basics of drawing, color theory, and design through experience with a wide variety of art media. Course instruction includes work with painting and drawing materials, ceramics, and computer graphics, as well as study of major trends in art and artists.
